OK, the El Paso is sad...still not sure what to make of what he's doing, but it defn looks bad...I just can't judge how much worse it is than the Ratdog concert I walked out of a few yrs back.

The one thing I will say, now that I can see his "outfit" is that is the most pathetic thing about it all.

If anyone I'd ever tried to convince of the worth of the DEAD sees this, they will so have the goods on me as to just how far they've fallen (sorry to one and all that still has a good time going to these "shows" but truly...) I'll never live it down.

Dude, trust me when I say this: that video is an absolute abomination compared to what the band is capable of. I'm a pretty unbiased music listener, even when I'm actually at the concert, but what they did on 7/10 was extremely fresh and exciting. This is obviously lame, don't be too down on Furthur as a band just because of this atrocious mess.

However, as I said, I don't think Weir was dosed or smashed, that's pretty ludicrous. The main problem here is just low energy, and as a musician I know that will kill your momentum - enough to destroy your ability to think and remember what it is you're playing, and where you are in the music. The guy may be having issues, but I don't think there was anything seriously wrong with him in the moment (perhaps these things had an indirect influence on his performance, but it's not like he was stumbling around drunk).

Yes (well, I saw 7/11 not 7/10 but can say the same).

Then like Ring, you are much better able to judge than me; thanks for the feedback...it is hard to tease apart (as evidenced in all the different takes above), and though I accept he may be abusing stuff, putting it all together, I am inclined to agree with you that you can't be absolutely certain of what applies in this one show (took me a minute to realize both songs I watched were the same show the camera work was so poor)...and given enough people have voiced as you have that they have seen him on "good nights" lately, this one can just be dismissed as on off night til more evidence comes to light.

I think without the sound you won't have gotten the picture. He couldn't play it. After about 10 minutes he says, "ok I'm going to start over" and the crowd cheers. He never gets past the first line. He is completely out of it.

Unfortunately, I did listen to this one...but you know, I still have such a negative view of him from my limited interactions of late...since you saw him recently, you are much better positioned to judge how bad this was, and it was bad. I guess I am just inclined to still imagine he's capable of looking this odd while not stoned, or sick, as strange as that sounds. And bizarrely, I am also convinced he has a number of substance abuse issues incl smoking and drinking, both well documented.

So, mark me down as idoitic for not necessarily saying what we see here is new or different, or indicative of him having a problem causing this behavior; I think he has two major problems: substance abuse, and an odd personality made worse by age and his original forgetfulness.

Not very charitable, I know...

I don't think we really disagree ... yeah, some combination of aging and maybe or maybe not taking some other substances that he can't handle as well as he once did, combined with just being Bob. No argument he was always an oddball.

I'm much more concerned about the choice of trousers - neither shorts nor pants . . . what's he thinking?

Everyone is allowed an off night. I could not even get off the couch yesterday, flu? Allergies? bad cold? I don't even know but I had zero energy and felt like I was run over by a garbage truck.

I hope you were merely recuperating from a hot night out with the girls. How were the Rads? Last night me and some buddies from work went to Hampton Beach (NH) and raved to Umphrey’s McGee. My legs are mighty sore this morning, but my spirits are flying!

The Radiators were great. My 14 year old made me buy her one of their CD's and my 17 year old got a T-Shirt. Then we ran into Dave, Ed & Reggie and my 14 yr old got her new CD autographed and my 17 yr old got her ticket stub autographed . . . pretty cool.

Kind of like watching a train wreck in slow motion. Oh well, everyone has an off night, no biggie.

Yeah you're right, it made me feel nauseous. The camera work was fucking all over the place.
